2020 SNEC Highlights

11The 14th SNEC was hold in 8th-10th August 2020 in Shanghai. Even though it was delay by the pandemic, people still showed strong passion towards the event as well as the solar industry. In overview, we saw main new techniques in solar panels focus on large size crystalline wafers, high-density, additional string series, and N type solar cells application.

In order to improve the output efficiency of module, one method is to increase the number of cells but remains the same as module size. The second method is to apply more efficient N type solar cells. Considering these two factors, most new exhibits use stitch welding and optimized interval techniques, but the current solar market is still uncertain with either these two techniques performs better, therefore, many facilities manufactures exhibit high compatibility welding machines that are able to adjust welding interval and stitch, on the other side, the compatibility of cutting cells concludes half, one third, and one fourth and even more. The compatibility of 180mm and 210mm cells becomes a standard. This year we found the 182mm and 210mm solar cells were represented in most exhibits. And could you ever imagine how high can the module power reaches at? 800w! 182 model solar panels range in 550w 72 cells, 590w 78 cells and up to 600w. On the other hand, except 660w 66 cells and 800w 80 cells, most 210 model solar panels range in about 600w 50-60 cells. Compare with 182 type, 210 type modules acutely make little output power improvements.

To summary 2020 SNEC, from the numbers perspective of view, there were more manufacturers that presented 182 type modules. In terms of techniques, most of 182 types modules apply 72 or 78 half cells encapsulation, whereas, 210 types use both half cell and one cut to three encapsulation. Speaking of BIPV, we saw many manufactures concentrate on the appearance, reliability, weather resistance and the lead free concept.
